How to download Facebook videos

HD or SD, which should you pick?
Facebook stores two progressive versions of most uploads. The HD file keeps the resolution the creator uploaded and is the right choice if you plan to watch it on a big screen, edit it, or archive it. The SD file is often five or six times smaller, which matters when you are on mobile data or saving a long video to a phone that is nearly full. We read the real file size of both before showing them, so the number next to each button is what will actually land on your device.

Do you keep my links or my videos?
No. Nothing you paste is stored and no copy of the file is kept. The video streams from Facebook through to your device and then it is gone.
Why does the video sometimes fail to load?
Almost always because the post is not public, the video was deleted, or the link points at a photo or text post rather than a video. Live broadcasts that are still running also cannot be saved until Facebook finishes turning them into a normal video.
Can I download the thumbnail as well?
Yes. When Facebook exposes a cover image, a second button appears under the video and saves it as a JPG.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. It runs in any browser on Android, iPhone, iPad, Mac and Windows, and there is no app to install. On iPhone, Safari saves the file to the Files app, and you can move it to Photos from there.
Is there a limit on video length?
No fixed limit. Short reels and hour-long uploads both work. Longer videos simply take longer to transfer, and the download supports resuming if your connection drops.
