Font pairing rules that work
Contrast, not conflict. Pair fonts that are clearly different, like a serif heading with a sans serif body. Two fonts that are only slightly different look like a mistake.
Keep the body font boring. Paragraph text should be easy to read at small sizes. Save the personality for headings.
Match the mood. A wedding site, a fintech app and a gaming channel need very different voices. Choose the heading font for mood first.
Two fonts is usually enough. Use weights and sizes to create hierarchy instead of adding a third typeface.
