What size should an Instagram post be?
1080x1350 for a portrait post, which is the 4:5 shape that takes up the most room in the feed. Square is 1080x1080 and landscape is 1080x566. Portrait is the default worth reaching for because a taller image occupies more screen as someone scrolls past, and that is most of the battle.
Does resizing reduce the quality of my image?
Scaling down is close to free and usually looks better than letting the platform do it, because you control the resampling instead of accepting whatever their pipeline does. Scaling up is different: there is no extra detail to recover, so enlarging a small image past its natural size makes it soft. The tool warns you when the preset is larger than your source.
What is the difference between crop and fit?
Crop fills the whole frame and cuts off whatever hangs over the edge, which keeps the image edge to edge with no bars. Fit shrinks the entire image until it sits inside the frame, so nothing is lost but you get a coloured border wherever the shapes disagree. Crop is right for photos, fit is right for logos and graphics you cannot cut into.
Can I resize for several platforms at once?
Yes. Tick as many presets as you like and every one is rendered from the same source, then downloaded together as a ZIP. The focal point you set applies to all of them, so a subject you centre stays centred whether the output is a wide banner or a tall story.
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. The resizing happens in your browser on a canvas element and no file is transmitted. That is why it keeps working if your connection drops, and why it is fine for client work you have not published yet.
Which format should I export as?
JPG for photographs, since it is much smaller and the platforms recompress everything anyway. PNG for logos, screenshots and anything with flat colour or text, and for anything needing a transparent background. WEBP is smaller than both and every current browser reads it, though a few older desktop applications still do not.
Why does my profile picture look cut off?
Every platform displays profile pictures as a circle while storing them as a square, so the corners are always trimmed. Keep the subject comfortably inside the middle and away from the edges. The same logic applies to cover images, where the visible area changes between mobile and desktop.
What is a safe zone?
The part of the frame that is never covered by interface. Instagram Stories put buttons over roughly the top and bottom 250 pixels, and YouTube banners only guarantee the middle 1546x423 shows on every device. Each preset notes its own trap underneath. Keep text inside those areas and nothing important gets hidden.
Is there a file size limit?
Nothing fixed, but very large sources use a lot of memory while they are decoded. A modern laptop handles a 8000 pixel wide photo without complaint. On an older phone, work with one image at a time.
