Font generator, explained
Two very different tools are called a font generator.
Search for a font generator and you will find two kinds of tools. Both are useful, but only one of them makes a font. Knowing the difference saves you from designing a logo with text that cannot be installed, or from building a font when all you wanted was a fancy Instagram bio.
Copy and paste font generators
They swap each letter for a Unicode symbol that already looks styled, like 𝓬𝓾𝓻𝓼𝓲𝓿𝓮 or 𝐛𝐨𝐥𝐝. That is perfect for an Instagram bio or a Discord name, where you cannot choose a typeface. There is no file to install, you are limited to the styles Unicode happens to include, and it can never be your own handwriting.

How it works
From paper to font file in four steps.
Expect about 20 minutes for a first version, and most of that is writing. No design software, no font editor, no Bézier curves.
Step 1
Print the template
Download the main sheet for A4 or US Letter. It has a box for every uppercase and lowercase letter, number and common punctuation mark, with guide lines for capitals, small letters and the baseline.
Step 2
Write, then take a photo
Fill each box with a dark pen and photograph the page in good light, or scan it. The corner squares let Font Studio find the page and straighten it, even from an angle. Add the variation sheets and the accents sheet whenever you like and upload them together.
Step 3
Review and refine
Every letter is traced into smooth vector outlines. Check the live preview, redraw anything you are not happy with, and adjust size, position and spacing without printing again.

Handwriting font generator

Real handwriting is never identical twice. A basic handwriting font has exactly one shape for each letter, so the two l's in “little” or the double o in “good” come out as perfect copies, and readers notice, even if they cannot say why.

Font creator for every language
161 accented letters from 13 marks.
Writing é, ñ, ü, ç and every other accented letter by hand would take pages. Instead you write the 13 accent marks once: acute, grave, circumflex, tilde, umlaut, ring, caron, breve, macron, dot, double acute, cedilla and ogonek. Font Studio combines them with your own letters.
Each accented letter is built as a composite glyph, your base letter plus your mark, centered and spaced the way a type designer would place it, with slightly smaller marks on capitals. Skip the accents sheet and Font Studio draws matching marks in your pen weight, which you can swap for your own whenever you like.

Font maker with a real editor

Every handwriting font has a few letters that came out wrong: a shaky capital, a comma that is too big, a g that sits too low. In Font Studio you fix them where you see them, and the preview updates as you go.

Spacing and kerning
Spacing that reads like a typeface.
On paper, your hand spaces letters without thinking. A font has to be told. Font Studio gives you the same spacing controls type designers use, and saves them inside the font file, so Word, Canva and your website all space your text the same way.

Tips
How to make a handwriting font that looks great.
The tracing is automatic, but it can only work with what is on the page. A few minutes of care while writing makes the biggest difference to the finished font.
- 1Use a black felt tip or gel pen.Pencil and thin ballpoint lines are too light and grainy to trace cleanly.
- 2Write at your natural size, then fill the box.Capitals up to the dashed line, small letters up to the dotted line. Tiny letters lose detail.
- 3Let descenders hang.g, j, p, q and y should drop below the solid baseline, the way they do on paper.
- 4Stay inside each box.Anything that crosses the border is cut off when the letter is traced.
- 5Photograph in daylight, straight on.Keep all four corner squares in view and your shadow off the page. A scan works too.
- 6Do not copy yourself on the variation sheets.Write each letter naturally again. The small differences are what make the font look real.
- 7Test with a real sentence.Type a note in the preview before you download. It shows spacing problems a grid of letters hides.

What is a font generator?

How do I make a font from my handwriting?

What file formats do I get?

Can I use my font in Word, Canva or Cricut?

Yes. Install the TTF on your computer and it appears in Word, Pages, Photoshop, Illustrator, Figma and Cricut Design Space. Canva lets you upload the TTF on plans that include custom fonts. Google Docs does not support uploaded fonts.
Why do repeated letters look the same in Microsoft Word?

Word leaves contextual alternates switched off by default, and that is the feature that rotates your letter versions. Select your text, open the Font dialog, go to the Advanced tab and tick Use Contextual Alternates. Web browsers, Adobe apps and Apple's Pages and Keynote use them automatically.
Which languages will my font support?

Your font covers the English alphabet plus 161 accented letters built from your accent marks, enough for Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Czech, Slovak, Hungarian, Turkish, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish and more. If you skip the accents sheet, Font Studio draws matching marks for you. Letters such as ß, æ, œ, ø and ł, and symbols such as €, £ and curly quotes, come from the accents and symbols sheet.
Can I use my handwriting font commercially?

Yes. It is your handwriting, so the font is yours. Every file includes a license note saying its owner may use it for any purpose, including commercial work such as products, logos and client projects.
Do I have to fill in all four template sheets?

Can I make a font without a printer?

Is my handwriting kept private?
