What are Discord fonts?
Discord fonts are styled letters you can paste into your Discord display name, server nicknames, channel names and messages. Discord does not let you pick a font for your name, but it does accept Unicode, so special characters that look like Old English, cursive, glitch or boxed letters show up exactly as you paste them.
Type your name once and see it in every style. The preview shows it as a display name in a Discord chat, so you can check that it still reads well at a glance before your friends see it.

How to change your Discord name font
- Type your name: Enter the name you want to use in the box. All the styles update instantly.
- Pick and copy a style: Click the style you like. It is copied to your clipboard and shown in the chat preview.
- Open your profile settings: In Discord, open User Settings and go to your profile. For a single server, open that server's menu and edit your server profile instead.
- Paste it as your display name: Paste the styled text into the Display Name or Nickname field.
- Save your changes: Save, and your new name appears next to everything you post.
Discord formatting vs Discord fonts
Discord messages already support simple formatting with markdown: **bold**, *italic*, __underline__, ~~strikethrough~~ and `code`. That is the best choice for everyday messages.
Markdown does not work in names, nicknames or channel names, and it only offers a few looks. That is where Unicode fonts come in. They work in every text field and give you styles markdown cannot, like Old English, cursive, glitch and bubble letters.
Display name vs username
Your Discord username is your unique handle and only accepts lowercase letters, numbers, underscores and periods, so styled fonts are not allowed there. Your display name and per-server nicknames are what people see in chat, and they do accept styled text. Friends can still find and mention you by your plain username.
Styling server and channel names
If you run a server, styled text is a quick way to give it character. Server owners often use small caps or bold for channel names and decorated brackets like 【 】 or 『 』 around section names. Keep channel names short and readable, since they appear in a narrow sidebar.

Can I use fancy fonts in my Discord username?
No. Discord usernames only allow lowercase letters, numbers, underscores and periods. Use styled text in your display name or server nickname instead.
Why does my styled name look different on mobile?
Discord uses your device's fonts to draw these characters, so the shapes can vary slightly between phones and computers. If a character shows as a box on one device, choose a more common style like bold, Old English or small caps.
Can people still mention me if my name is styled?
Yes. Mentions and friend requests use your plain username, so a styled display name does not stop people from finding or tagging you.
Does glitch text work in Discord names?
